Images and Opinions of Citrullus lanatus from GardenWeb Members| indy76km - 5 - Rumford, ME | I grew the sugar baby variety of water melons. They sprouted quickly but grew slowly due to cool wet weather for most of the begining of summer. Once it warmed up they took off. Each plant has 2 to 3 melons on it. | Nora_in_Vancouver - 8b Wet Coast | July 11, 2003 (Delta BC) | This would have been the year to try watermelons (2003), a very hot summer. Not easy here on the coast, must start indoors in early April, plant out in May at 5 weeks old. 'Golden Crown' variety is listed at 73 (hot) days after transplanting. Black plastic mulch recommended to keep the soil warm. West Coast Seeds Demonstration Garden, Delta B.C. | |
