Rubus spectabilis
A lovely shrub, with magenta flowers appearing before the leaves in the spring and the berries bearing very early in golds and reds. However, I would not recommend this shrub in a small garden, as it is a very aggressive suckering shrub and volunteers too. The stems are thorny.

The berries ripen very early, in May and June. Easy to pick, because they have no thorns. The ripe berries glow like jewels, varying from bright raspberry red, to orange, to golden yellow.
