| This deciduous to semi-evergreen twining vine is a rapid grower. Flowers on old wood; prune after flowering. | |

| I have it on a fence in the shade and have not had any problems. It is a vigorous grower and is quite lovely. The flowers are wonderful! | |
| wendyabrams - 5 | I love this plant in a partially shaded area. I trained it to grow to cover an arbor and it was beautiful to walk under because you got to see its intricate leaves "close up." Interesting, though not spectacular, flowers in early spring, but you've got to look close to see them. | |
| Kwakiutl - 7b BC | Don't plant this in a shady wet location, it is very susceptible to mold. | Ratings| overall | 4 | | how easy | 4 | | flower | n/a | | foliage | 8 | | propagate | n/a | | fragrance | n/a |

| PrairieWind - 5/6 MO | If you have two different varieties, (two different colored flowers) then it produces fruit that's edible and hints at chocolate, hence the common name "Chocolate Vine". It's also an excellent source of basket material, sends out runners of 30', and can be invasive if unchecked. | Ratings| overall | 9 | | how easy | 9 | | flower | 7 | | foliage | 10 | | propagate | 8 | | fragrance | 8 |

| Lisa_z6OR - z6 OR | Akebia is supposed to be so easy to grow that in some places it is considered a weed. I planted it in zone 6, Oregon, and almost immediately had a case of fungus similiar to black spot on roses. I'm currently deliberating what to do about it. | |
