earthnut - WA/usda8/ahs2
Araucaria heterophylla
Some in Miami
It grows very slowly indoors and is suseptible to mites caused by dry air, but it thrives in tropical climes. Easy to grow however, and a nice substitute for a christmas tree. :)

Araucaria heterophylla
Sept 3, 2002 (Oakridge Shopping Centre)
Not really a pine, but a tropical conifer that does well as a house plant. It is relatively easy to grow, but requires consistant watering. This specimen has lots of natural light from a wall of windows to the east, and a large overhead skylight. It has been growing at this Vancouver mall since 1984. Closely related to pines of the Jurassic period when dinosaurs roamed.

Our Norfolk was a gift from my wife's grandmother. It lived about a year in the 5 gallon bucket that it was given to us in. Since moving from Nashville to Tampa, it was liberated into the yard at our new home. I hear that they really like Florida, we will see!
