Images and Opinions of Strelitzia nicholai from GardenWeb Members| ridingthe8_9line - 8 9 | the runt | This "giant" Bird just can't seem to get in the race against the other Strelitzia who lives just opposite this guy on our pond's other side. But at 4 feet compared to 9 feet(both planted a year ago) all suggestions to help him along would be super. | guavagto - | If your Bird of Paradise will not blood add blood meal to the soil. Sounds a little strange but a cousin in Florida suggested it and my one year old plants in pots boom almost non-stop. Full sun is a big plus also. | Ratings| overall | 8 | | how easy | 8 | | flower | 9 | | foliage | 10 | | propagate | n/a | | fragrance | n/a |

| MrRedwood - indoors CA (SF) | Detail of a young leaf. | Somewhat similar in appearance to Elephant Ear plants -- at least that's what I was told it was when it was given to me. The photo here is a detail of a leaf; the plant is still small, and was just seperated as an offshoot of a much larger plant (both are in containers). | |
| sunny_canuck - 2b | it will flower after about five years and way easier if it has confined roots in a smaller pot then you think.crowded roots help to make it flower. this after i transplanted mine a couple years ago to a big pot hah kindest regards sunny_canuck | |
| leelu - 8b/9a | I can't get mine to flower. The foliage is wonderful! I have it in full sun and it's staying at about 4 feet so far. However, it may have been mislabled. | Ratings| overall | 6 | | how easy | 7 | | flower | 5 | | foliage | 10 | | propagate | 4 | | fragrance | n/a |

| Francois_NorthFrance - USDA 7 | For the moment, I have no flowers | A close cousin of Strelitzia reginae much larger : 30 feet high ! The infloresence (the paradisiacal bird-like flower structures) are composed of a dark blue bract, white sepals and bluish-purple "tongue". It likes enriched moisture-retentive soil. Light: full sun or part shade. This plant is hardier than S. regina - it can handle brief periods of frost with no damage ! | |
