Images and Opinions of Dioscorea bulbifera from GardenWeb Members

JapaneseGarden - z8/9 HoustonTX
Far from being the monster that most people claim it to be, this vine has gorgeous foliage and is great for filling in a bare fence panel or trellis. If it grows too big for your desires, cut it back and then collect the tubers in the winter so they don't drop and self establish. That's all there is to it. It won't eat your entire neighborhood - really!!

Dioscorea bulbifera
One of the single most invasive plants I have ever come across. The real shame of this is that it is so extraordinarily beautiful that people cannot be dissuaded from planting it.

The Air Potato vine is grown for it's attractive heart-shaped leaves. Flowers are inconspicuous. Fruit looks like shriveled potatoes. It is considered invasive in some southern states of the US.
