Darmera peltata
a wetlands stunner
A showstopper in the wetland garden. Forget the flowers. The large lotus leaves atop 4' stalks defy gravity nodding in the sun to part-shade. Requires wet feet to thrive. Seed ripens in late May, and can be sown immediatly. Seeds are very fine, and must be sown on the surface of wet peat, never being allowed to dry out. Will germinate in 3 weeks.

Darmera peltata
April 18, 2004 (Vancouver BC)
This is native to the Pacific Northwest. Blooms in April with the early to mid-season tulips. Red flower stalks (up to 12 inches tall) appear first, then the dense covering leaves. Needs moist soil.
