I need to know how to locate one of these wonderful plants. I inherited one from my grandmother years ago and it lived a long time. Unfortunalty my house sitter drowned it while I was on vacation and I want a replacement. Does anyone have any cuttings they would be willing to part with??? Please email if you do. amy8033@excite.com. Thank you! Amy

It's going to bloom!
In February, it sends up shoots which will keep growing until you pinch them off. (Put them in soil and they'll root!) It needs a lot of pinching to keep it bushy. If set out in the sun in the summer, it will bloom. The flowers open in the evening and stay open only that night. The pink sepals begin to curl back on the evening the flowers will open.

I've been growing oxypetalum for about 20 years now. I always have new plants started to give for gifts. In my experience, if you keep it in light to medium shade, the foliage will be much greener and prettier, although the blooms will not be as numerous. Since it only blooms in spring and fall I prefer to keep it in shady places. It requires the same soil mixture...

I just acquired this plant from an elderly lady whose arthritis makes it hard for her to care for anymore. I'm thrilled with the size! Update, it has bloomed now, I can't believe how large the flower is. Here is my nine year old taking a sniff.

I've only had this plant for a few days, so I didn't know the answer to most of the questions. From what I've read, though, it's easy to propagate from leaf cuttings. A larger picture is available at: http://eqtvzweb.tripod.com/midnight_flowering_plant.JPG
