Geum aleppicum
August 5, 2002 (near Red Deer AB)
Up to 1 meter (3ft) tall, perennial. The fruit is a large burr that sticks to socks and dogs. The burrs persist long into the fall and winter. This plant is native to Alberta, and is found in gravel banks in the bends of streams, or in recently cleared damp wasteland and meadows.

Yellow Avens (Geum aleppicum)
This plant grows wild in my yard in sun and moderate shade. Very nice foliage, rather inconspicuous buttercup-type flower. The fruit is a fuzzy ball about the size of the flower.
