Nigella damascena
This is a resilient little plant. It does readily reseed and will even grow in clay. I have seen it take over sidewalks, spreading from someone's garden and seeding in the cracks. Very cute flower!

i am so fond of this lovely little ephemeral plant! the ferny foilage and blue flower pods are reminiscent of a faerie garden...in fact, folklore maintains that this plant will lure the little creatures to your garden. the plant is relatively hardy, and readily self sows. it will tolerate almost any soil condition, given it has enough sunlight.

I will always grow this plant. A beautiful, blue self-seeding annual. It is available in other colors, too.

Nigella 'Miss Jekyll Blue' is considered to be the best blue cultivar of Nigella damascena. The seed pods are very ornamental and can be used in dried flower arrangements. Self-sows prolifically.

Self-sown seedlings blooming in May!
This self-seeding annual is a great little filler. Its frothy foliage and lacy blue flowers are perfect for a cottage garden. The seed pods are decorative dried, as well.
