What do these terms mean?

Remarks:
i got two of these from Lowes (home improvement store) about six weeks ago. They're about three feet tall now, currently they are growing well, and starting to spread out a bit. I've put them in the ground (we'll see if that was a mistake in the winter) near the house to try to keep them warm in the event of a frost, though they are pretty rare here.
